{"id":382,"date":"2020-01-13T15:08:01","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T15:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drmeganargo.net\/?page_id=382"},"modified":"2021-09-04T16:08:32","modified_gmt":"2021-09-04T16:08:32","slug":"teaching-201718","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/drmeganargo.net\/index.php\/teaching\/teaching-201718\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching 2017\/18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MA1861: Statistics<\/strong> &#8211; a year-long introduction to statistics, covering descriptive statistics, probability, and inferential statistics. \u00a0Module leader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP2060: Physics Laboratory<\/strong> &#8211; running a series of astronomy experiments in the second year laboratory, on topics such as binary stars, analysing CCDs, eight-week open-ended group research projects, and including evening observing sessions at UCLan&#8217;s Observatory at Alston. \u00a0Module leader for the astrophysics half of the module.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AA3050: DL astronomy dissertation<\/strong> &#8211; supervising distance learning students working their final dissertations at the end of their path through the UCLan distance learning degree in astronomy. \u00a0My student in 2017\/18 worked on MeerKAT commissioning data. \u00a0Module leader.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP3950: Third year physics\/astronomy project<\/strong> &#8211; supervising students working on their BSc major research project. \u00a0In 2017\/18 my students worked on OH masers in M82 and ultra-steep spectrum radio sources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AP4553: MPhys project &#8211; <\/strong>In 2017\/18 my student worked full-time for 12 weeks processing EVN observations of NGC3310, looking for radio emission from ULX sources that are candidate intermediate-mass black holes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PhD students<\/strong> &#8211; I am co-supervising a PhD student working on the Pebbles survey, 2017-2020.<\/p>\n<p>I am also studying on the module ZZ0555: Teaching Toolkit, which is a course in teaching methods\u00a0leading to\u00a0HEA D1 accreditation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MA1861: Statistics &#8211; a year-long introduction to statistics, covering descriptive statistics, probability, and inferential statistics. \u00a0Module leader.
